Summary

A field wall in Öggestorp, Sweden, has been reliably dated to the early Iron Age (500 BC to AD 550) using a combination of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and other archaeological methods. This finding addresses the challenge of dating agrarian structures in complex, multilayered landscapes, where multiple periods of use complicate interpretation. The study demonstrates that OSL, when critically combined with additional techniques, can provide accurate age estimates for agricultural remains. This advances our understanding of fossil agrarian forms and their chronological relationship to other archaeological features.
