Summary

A platform-to-basin transition in the Lower to Middle Cambrian strata of the southern Canadian Rockies, marked by significant Pb-Zn mineralization and dolomitization, is a key finding from this study. Researchers analyzed six localities across the Front and Central ranges, revealing critical tectonic, sedimentologic, and biologic events during the deposition of the lower to mid-Sauk Megasequence. Notable features include Middle Cambrian platformal carbonates near Lake Louise and the Burgess Shale biota at Mount Stephen, which exhibit unusual mineralogic attributes such as Mg-rich mudstone and syndepositional faulting. The study integrates field observations with geochemical analysis to elucidate these dynamic geological processes.
