Summary
A significant potential for producing novel bioactive compounds was identified among actinomycetes isolated from unexplored soil samples in the southeast of Rabat, Morocco. All 29 strains demonstrated the ability to produce at least one non-diffusible pigment, with a majority (86.20%) also synthesizing diffusible pigments, including melanoid types in 20.69% of isolates. Notably, 17.24% exhibited antibacterial activity, suggesting diverse secondary metabolite production capabilities. This study highlights the untapped potential of Rabat's actinomycete populations for discovering bioactive compounds, offering promising avenues for further exploration in pharmaceutical research.
