Summary
A comprehensive study of lichen diversity in two high-altitude regions of Nepal, Manaslu Conservation Area (MCA) and Sagarmatha National Park (SNP), reveals significant variation in species richness. The research identified 13 lichen species across four families in MCA and a notably higher diversity of 69 species belonging to 15 families in SNP. Parmeliaceae emerged as the dominant family, with 29 species recorded in SNP alone, followed by Physciaceae (12 species) and Cladoniaceae (8 species). This study highlights the lichen enrichment in these regions, providing valuable insights into environmental quality and potential bio-indicators for future monitoring. The findings suggest geographical gradients influencing speciation and endemism, offering a foundation for further ecological research.
