Limits of Acceptable Change (LAC) for Tourism Development in the Historic Centre of Porto (Portugal)

A study on the Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge, and Monastery of Serra do Pilar identifies critical limits for sustainable tourism development by analyzing local perceptions. It reveals that resident populations experience significant tourism impacts, necessitating their active involvement in shaping local policies to ensure acceptable changes. The research employs a qualitative approach with three focus groups, engaging stakeholders to define these limits using the Limits of Acceptable Change (LAC) method. This participatory planning strategy aims to support sustainable development while balancing diverse stakeholder interests.
