Summary
A novel, value-based methodology for disaster risk analysis in historic centers has been successfully applied to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of San Gimignano, Italy. This approach, which integrates hazard assessment with vulnerability and exposure factors while prioritizing cultural heritage values, demonstrates significant potential for mitigating risks in fragile urban landscapes. The study highlights its effectiveness in proposing targeted preventive measures that safeguard both tangible heritage assets and built environments. By formalizing risk as a function of these key components, the methodology offers a practical framework for disaster resilience in Italian historic centers, paving the way for further research on monitoring and maintenance strategies.
