Summary

A new perspective on the spread and reception of Irish scholarship during the Carolingian period emerges from this study, challenging the assumption of a special relationship between Ireland and the Abbey of St. Gall. The research reveals that while Irish texts were indeed copied at the abbey, their influence was not as direct or unique as previously thought. By analyzing surviving manuscripts, the study maps out the practicalities of knowledge transfer from Ireland to this Alpine center of learning, contributing to our understanding of the Carolingian revival of scholarship. This work also highlights the broader network of intellectual exchange that sustained St. Gall's Golden Age.
