Summary

A study from the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India, identified Streptomyces rimosus (FMS-20) as a promising antimicrobial agent against multiple human pathogens. Among 106 actinomycete strains isolated, FMS-20 demonstrated significant inhibitory activity, particularly in intracellular methanol and extracellular ethyl acetate extracts, with maximum zones of inhibition against Aspergillus brasiliensis (22 mm) and Bacillus subtilis (25 mm), respectively. This finding highlights the potential of actinomycetes from biodiverse regions like the Western Ghats as a source for novel antimicrobial compounds to combat drug-resistant pathogens.
