Summary

Mount Athos monasteries, including the significant Serbian monastery Hilandar, traditionally use a Byzantine time system where hours are counted from sunset. This study reveals that the annual church calendar tables for setting Eastern European Time to Athens can be adapted for Hilandar and other Mount Athos monasteries due to negligible local time differences within the concentrated monastic area. By recalculating these tables specifically for Hilandar, this research provides a critical tool for understanding Serbian timekeeping history on Mount Athos.
