Summary

Guizhou golden monkeys (Rhinopithecus brelichi) exhibit significant seasonal and altitudinal variations in habitat selection, with their foraging behavior shifting between a broad elevation range (1432–2100 m) during spring/winter and a narrower band (1700–1900 m) from April to September. This pattern is driven by differences in plant food availability across elevations and seasons, suggesting an energy-efficient foraging strategy that minimizes search time. The study, conducted at Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve between 2011 and 2013, highlights the importance of protecting all forested habitats within this elevation range to conserve the species' critical resources.
