Summary
A study of crust–mantle xenoliths from the Kharchinsky Volcano in Kamchatka reveals that peridotites formed at extreme conditions, around 1140 °C and ≤10 kbar, within intermediate magma chambers at depths spanning from the spinel stability field to the Moho. The research identifies metasomatic processes as responsible for interstitial and vein mineral assemblages, with pseudomorphs indicating replacement of primary minerals by secondary phases such as chlorite, plagioclase, and K-feldspar. These findings provide critical insights into the petrogenesis of plutonic rocks in subduction-related volcanic arcs, particularly within the UNESCO-listed Volcanoes of Kamchatka.
