Summary

Hydrologic droughts in South China's karst drainage basins exhibit complex temporal-spatial patterns, characterized by a decline from the 1970s to 1990s followed by an increase from the 2000s to 2010s. This study, analyzing 55 hydrological control basins, reveals that drought intensity and occurrence frequency are highest during these two decades, with significant variability among different basin types. The research employs the Streamflow Drought Index (SDI) to assess drought characteristics, providing insights into the evolving nature of hydrologic droughts in response to climate change.
