Summary

A significant decline in fishery resources within the Saloum Delta, Senegal, has been attributed to overexploitation, habitat degradation, and climate change. The study, conducted from 2020 to 2022, recorded a decrease in species richness and abundance, with biomass dropping from 11.81±11.54kg in 2020 to 3.97±2.36kg in 2022. Fish length also decreased significantly over the study period, indicating worsening conditions for marine life. The research used beach seine catches at six sites within the Gandoule Marine Protected Area, identifying 58 species with notable spatio-temporal variations in diversity and biomass.
