Summary
A rare artistic influence from Chartres' master workshops extends beyond its immediate region, reaching as far as Saint-Denis and Paris. This study identifies the hand of a distinctive sculptor in the left lateral portal statues of Notre-Dame de Chartres, linking them to works found in Étampes and Châteaudun's Madeleine abbey church. The research traces this secondary master's stylistic impact across multiple sites, revealing a broader network of medieval artistic exchange than previously recognized.
