Summary

A high degree of similarity (0.86) was found among academicians' perceptions of Istanbul's Historic Peninsula, revealing dominant urban legibility and image on its eastern side, particularly around the Atatürk Boulevard-oriented area. This dominance is attributed to negative psychological boundaries. The study analyzed 32 surveys using MAXQDA 2018 Analytics Pro, employing Kuckartz–Rädikers zeta similarity analysis. Landmarks and districts were prominent in verbal maps, while landmarks and urban nodes stood out more in hand-drawn maps. Additionally, strong correlations were observed between unsafe and unlikeable elements, as well as likeable and safe elements.
