Summary

Tree biomass in the Putorana Plateau, a remote and understudied boreal region of Central Siberia, varies significantly with elevation and micro-terrain morphology. The study found that total tree biomass ranges from 6.47 to 149 tons per hectare, while deadwood biomass fluctuates between 0.06 and 21.45 tons per hectare. At Lama Lake, biomass production decreases with elevation, whereas at Keta Lake, the relationship follows a U-shaped pattern. The research derived significant height-diameter and crown radius-height models for six tree species, revealing that micro-site environmental conditions, including soil nutrient content, substantially influence tree biomass. These findings highlight the complex interplay between terrain morphology and biomass distribution in boreal forests.
