Summary

Tourism has positively impacted the livelihoods of women in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, by increasing their income. However, women still face significant barriers to formal employment within the tourism industry and have limited influence on community decision-making. The study, which used Sara Longwe’s (1995) empowerment framework to analyze survey data and semi-structured interviews, found that while women have made progress in enhancing their livelihoods, they remain marginalized in terms of access to opportunities and power dynamics within the community.
