Summary

Scientists have identified Sedum jinglanii, a new species of Crassulaceae native to Mount Danxia, Guangdong, China. Phylogenetic analysis using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of nuclear ribosomal DNA places this species within S. sect. Sedum and reveals it as sister to a clade comprising S. alfredi and S. emarginatum with strong statistical support. Morphologically, S. jinglanii differs from its closest relatives by distinct traits such as opposite leaves, shorter petals, nectar scales, carpels, and styles, as well as a short, erect or ascending rhizome. These findings expand the taxonomic knowledge of Sedum species in the region and highlight the biodiversity significance of Mount Danxia.
