Summary
A significant archaeological discovery in Central Saryarka, Kazakhstan, reveals Early Bronze Age ceramics linked to the Elunino Culture, dating back to the second half of the 3rd millennium BC. This find, unearthed at the Senkibay-2 burial ground within a Petrovka Culture mound-enclosure, expands the known distribution of the Elunino Culture further south, potentially reaching the northern coast of Lake Balkhash. The study utilized radiocarbon dating and analogies with regional sites to attribute the ceramics to this culture, though its exact nature—whether part of funeral-commemorative activities or a destroyed settlement layer—remains unresolved. This discovery also sheds light on the spatial relationship between Elunino and Petrovka cultural formations in pre-Andronovo complexes, highlighting the need for further fieldwork to clarify these findings.
