Summary

A rare pattern of volcanic unrest at Alcedo Volcano, a mafic caldera in the Galápagos Islands, was documented through InSAR data and geodetic modeling. The study revealed episodic magma emplacement beneath the caldera, characterized by asymmetric uplift (up to 30 cm) followed by subsidence and lateral migration of magma, without culminating in an eruption. This behavior suggests a discontinuous deep magma supply and aligns with long-term geological observations of incremental caldera growth. The findings highlight the complex dynamics of non-eruptive volcanic unrest, offering insights into the processes shaping resurgent basaltic calderas.
