Summary

This study reveals how language and visual documentation shape the narrative of conflict, particularly focusing on Israel's portrayal of Gaza and Hebron during Operation Protective Edge (2014). It demonstrates that Israel’s use of terms like 'terror,' 'trauma,' and 'victimhood' frames its military actions as defensive and democratic, reinforcing a dominant political imaginary. The research also highlights how documentary photographers, including the collective Activestills, challenge these narratives by visualizing the human impact of conflict, particularly in Gaza's 'catastrophization.' The analysis combines discourse examination with photographic evidence to critique political visibility in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
