Summary
Modernist Kaunas offers significant potential for transforming its urban open public spaces to enhance sustainable development. Research using sociotope mapping identified that current spaces lack the diversity needed to fully utilize natural, social, and economic values throughout different times of the year and day. The study, conducted in three pilot districts, employed site observation protocols and user questionnaires to reveal gaps in space functionality, emphasizing the need for adaptive planning that accommodates various users—individuals, families, and organizations—to foster more dynamic and inclusive urban environments.
