Summary
Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex, recognized as the world's largest brick-built covered bazaar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has maintained its existence with minimal changes despite its pivotal role in east-west trade routes for seven centuries. This study reveals that the complex's social-physical relationship and spatial formation have remained largely intact, preserving its historical significance across multiple eras including Seljuks, Ilkhanids, Kara-koyunlu Turkmens, Ak-koyunlu Turkmens, Safavids, Ottoman, and Qajar. The research analyzed the bazaar's physical and social structure, evaluating its change process by identifying current problems and future possibilities. By comprehensively examining the accumulated information from these historical periods, this study provides foundational data for conservation and development proposals, contributing to sustainable urban and social development.
