Summary
A shift towards urban vitality and sustainability in historic Arab city centers has shown promise, but traditional conservation efforts have largely failed to address key issues. This study identifies critical challenges such as building reuse, traffic congestion, and funding shortages, while highlighting the impact of innovative urban management on heritage quality. Through a comparative analysis of Jeddah and Amman, it reveals that pedestrian-friendly spaces, cultural events, job creation through heritage, and stricter urban regulations can significantly enhance the image and functionality of historic areas. The research offers an assessment framework for evaluating conserved urban heritage and provides actionable recommendations for conservation authorities to engage residents, improve mobility, and attract visitors.
