Summary

A comprehensive study on the Eurasian dotterel (Eudromias morinellus) reveals that 70% of its population is concentrated in the central alpine belt of the Putorana Plateau, covering 42% of its vertical living space during the breeding season. The research, spanning 30 years (1988–2018), identifies optimal habitats as dry stony areas with sparse vegetation and a hummocky microrelief in the alpine belt. Nesting occurs at altitudes of 850–1036 meters, with egg-laying beginning as early as June 7 under often complete snow cover. Chicks typically emerge between July 3 and 18, with hatching synchronized within a single day for broods. The study also documents the species' three-dimensional range and its preference for specific microhabitats, providing critical insights into its breeding biology in one of Russia's largest Arctic mountain ranges.
