Summary

Researchers have identified four new species of the amphipod genus Bellorchestia from Tasmania, Australia: B. lutruwita, B. needwonnee, B. palawakani, and B. reliquia. These discoveries expand the known biodiversity of coastal beach-dwelling crustaceans in the region, including within the UNESCO-listed Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area. The study provides distribution records based on extensive ecological surveys, updates the generic diagnosis for Bellorchestia following recent taxonomic revisions, and includes a key and field guide to assist in species identification. This work contributes to our understanding of amphipod diversity and conservation in Australian coastal ecosystems.
