Summary
A study tracking the tree component of a floodplain forest in Brasília, Brazil, over eight years revealed high but balanced dynamics: annual mortality rates reached 4.25%, while recruitment was equally robust at 3.67%. Despite these changes, species diversity remained stable (H' = 2.84–3.02 nats/ind), suggesting resilience in community structure even under anthropogenic pressures. Researchers analyzed 40 plots (0.8 ha) twice (2000 and 2008), recording shifts from 50 to 59 species, yet no significant decline in diversity. The findings underscore the need for long-term studies to inform conservation strategies for these ecologically critical but threatened ecosystems.
