An annotated checklist of the freshwater cladocerans (Crustacea: Branchiopoda: Cladocera) of Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands

A comprehensive annotated checklist identifies 34 valid species of freshwater cladocerans (Crustacea: Branchiopoda) from Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands, grouped into 23 genera. This compilation revises all published records, evaluates taxonomic validity, and provides biogeographical insights for each taxon. Despite this progress, current attempts to analyze distributional patterns remain premature due to insufficient data. The study highlights significant gaps in cladoceran taxonomy across Ecuador and offers recommendations for future research to address these deficiencies.
