Summary

A multidisciplinary study at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Xanthos-Letoon, Turkey, demonstrates the potential of virtual reality (VR) to enhance cultural heritage management and visitor experience. By integrating photogrammetric reconstructions with archaeologically accurate 3D models, researchers created immersive VR content that allowed users to switch between real-time representations and detailed historical models. A survey revealed insights into user behavior and preferences, suggesting VR as an effective tool for both conservation efforts and public engagement. Conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, this six-month project, supported by TÜBİTAK, highlights the importance of digital heritage in preserving and interpreting archaeological sites.
