The Study of the Door Handles of the Khoja Ahmet Yasawi Mausoleum – a Lost Valuable Relic

Two bronze door handles, lost in 1959 from the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawiwere identified as significant relics through historical documentation and art analysis. The study reveals their cultural value by tracing references from the 19th century (e.g., A. Geinst, 1860; A. Vereshchagin’s Turkestan Series) to modern scholarship, including works by T.K. Basenov and A.A. Ivanov. These handles, linked to Islamic art traditions, feature intricate craftsmanship and inscriptions attributed to Izz ad-din Tadj ad-din Isfahani, underscoring their historical importance in medieval Islamic metallurgy and decorative arts.
