Summary

This study reveals that modernist urbanization during the Soviet era fundamentally altered the social-spatial dynamics of Lithuanian cities, including Kaunas, by reshaping public spaces and redefining their functionality. Using interdisciplinary network theory and mathematical models, researchers analyzed how these transformations affected urban structures from 1939 to 2016, demonstrating that modernist urbanism not only introduced new spatial configurations but also redefined the overall operation of cities. The findings highlight the profound impact of Soviet-era modernization on public space usage and urban development.
