Summary

Lamu Old Town's mangrove conservation faces significant barriers to community participation, with the lack of enforcement identified as the most critical challenge. A study using mixed methods and correlational research design revealed that only 60% of respondents acknowledged weak enforcement in mangrove protection, while less than half cited poor management (46%), inadequate implementation mechanisms (47%), and insufficient consultation in decision-making (36%) as hurdles. These findings underscore the urgent need to strengthen governance standards and community engagement for sustainable mangrove conservation in Lamu County.
