Summary

A study on ecotourism competitiveness in Sarawak, Malaysia, reveals that destination resource constructs—including natural resources, cultural heritage attractions, range of activities, accessibility, and tourism service quality—significantly enhance tourist perceptions of competitiveness. Using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with data from 188 respondents across five national parks (Bako, Niah, Kubah, Gunung Gading, and Gunung Mulu), the research demonstrates that endowed resources (natural and cultural assets), created resources (diversity of activities), and supporting resources (accessibility and service quality) collectively drive ecotourism competitiveness. This empirical evidence provides actionable insights for industry stakeholders, including business operators, policymakers, and tourism planners, to improve management and development strategies for natural tourism destinations.
