Summary
A novel, low-cost digital documentation method for mural paintings in rock-hewn churches, such as Üzümlü Church in Cappadocia, Turkey, has been developed. This approach leverages non-metric high-resolution imaging to capture detailed conditions of mural paintings without requiring specialized equipment or extensive human resources. Unlike traditional photogrammetric software, which often lacks sufficient resolution due to hardware limitations, this method enables rapid, in-situ documentation that supports preservation and restoration efforts by comparing approximate images with actual mural conditions. The study demonstrates the potential of this technique to bridge gaps in digital preservation while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
