The Effect of Different Afforestation Tree Species on Plant Diversity after 50 Years on Mount Tai, China

World Heritage Site: Mount Taishan

Summary

After 50 years, afforestation with Robinia pseudoacacia significantly reduces tree layer richness and diversity compared to other species on Mount Tai. Pinus tabulaeformis and larch plantations show lower shrub layer diversity, while Pinus tabulaeformis and Platycladus orientalis plantations exhibit reduced herb layer richness. Notably, Mount Tai's plantations outperform those of Mount Meng and Mount Yi in herb layer diversity metrics. These findings highlight the long-term impact of tree species selection on plant biodiversity, offering critical insights for future forest restoration strategies.
