Summary

Researchers have identified the prevalence of C16 homodrimanes, specifically those with biological configuration 8α(H), in hydrothermal oil from Uzon Volcano Caldera, Kamchatka. This finding suggests that bicyclic sesquiterpanes are likely derivatives of this oil. The study also revealed a correlation between thermal maturity and the relative content of C15 drimanes, leading to the proposal of a novel sesquiterpane maturity index. The investigation utilized GC-MS techniques to analyze the composition and relative content of C14–C16 bicyclic sesquiterpanes in oil seeps from thermal springs.
