Summary
A detailed lithological analysis of the Lower Cambrian Pestrotsvet Formation near the Oi-Muran reef massif in Yakutia reveals rhythmic sedimentary patterns influenced by short-term transgressions and regressions. The formation exhibits thin alternations of limestone laminae, ranging from 3–5 cm to 40 cm in thickness, characterized by their light gray or pinkish-gray color and purity. These limestones contain abundant cyanobacteria and algal remains, suggesting their significant role in rock formation. Additionally, maroon marlstone intervals and ferruginous clay layers further define the sedimentary dynamics of this off-reef facies adjacent to one of Earth's oldest reef systems, the West Yakut Barrier Reef. This study enhances understanding of the geological processes shaping early marine ecosystems.
