Summary

A significant overlap exists between conservation and innovation priorities, even within the management of UNESCO industrial World Heritage sites. This finding emerges from a study examining 22 European industrial heritage sites, which revealed that effective heritage management often incorporates elements of innovation-oriented development. The research compared criteria for managing industrial heritage (using the 'Good Practice Wheel') with those for areas of innovation (success factors for Science and Technology Parks). Through an online survey, managers evaluated these criteria, demonstrating that integrative approaches to heritage management can successfully balance conservation with modern innovation needs.
