Summary

Outsourced finance plays a pivotal role in sustaining the built heritage of Stone Town, Zanzibar, by elevating its global visibility and reviving stagnant conservation efforts. However, despite these contributions, current practices often yield detrimental outcomes that hinder long-term sustainability. The study examines how external financial sources influence heritage conservation in developing countries where internal resources are insufficient. It highlights both the positive impact of outsourced finance—such as bringing international attention to Stone Town—and its limitations, which fail to ensure lasting preservation effects.
