Dune systems of the Namib Desert – a spatial and temporal perspective

World Heritage Site: Namib Sand Sea

Publication Year: 2014

Publication Type: Article

Publication Identifier: WHECF99CAD027

Summary

The Namib Sand Sea has been shaped by consistent aeolian processes over 15 million years under stable wind regimes and sediment supply. The extent and characteristics of its dune fields reflect regional variations in accommodation space, wind dynamics, and sediment availability. This study provides a spatial and temporal analysis of these dune systems, offering insights into their long-term evolution and the factors influencing their development.
