Summary

British colonial rule in Mandate Palestine (1917–1948) left a lasting imprint on Jerusalem's urban development and historical narrative. This study reveals how British policies, shaped by both European romanticization of the 'holy city' and modern nationalist contestations, constructed Jerusalem’s municipal borders and strategic agenda. By analyzing colonial imaginations alongside contemporary realities, the research sheds light on the historical formation of a modern city under colonial influence, with implications for its present-day significance.
