Summary

Historic castles, including the Salah al-Din Citadel in Cairo, significantly influence urban development strategies for their surrounding areas. This study reveals that analyzing the spatial organization of such structures—using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Space Syntax analysis—can provide critical indicators for integrating castles with their urban environments while preserving historical characteristics. The research demonstrates that understanding these organizational features is essential for shaping sustainable urbanization in historic city centers, particularly those centered around castles. By applying a theoretical framework to the Salah al-Din Citadel, the study highlights the potential for spatial analysis to guide future urban development strategies, addressing gaps in current perceptions of castle-urban integration.
