Summary
A comprehensive network of pedestrian zones is essential for enhancing the tourist potential and preserving the historical and cultural heritage of Kyiv's historic center, which spans three hills: the Upper Town, Pechersk, and Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Current transport infrastructure in Kyiv does not support the formation of new pedestrian areas, leading to central squares like Independence Square and Troitska Square being primarily used for administrative, political, and commercial purposes with limited comfort or social identity. The study introduces a spatial analysis method to evaluate public spaces and proposes design solutions to integrate transit and stationary spaces into a citywide pedestrian network, connecting key axes such as Volodymyrska and Khreschatyk.
