Summary

A significant collection of photographic documents from Nikolai Marr's sixteen archaeological campaigns (1892–1917) at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ani has been identified as a valuable resource for reconstructing the history of this medieval architectural complex. These photographs, preserved in the archives of IHMC RAS, capture landscapes, architecture, and mural paintings, as well as the process of archaeological and restoration work. The collection is particularly rich from the first two years of Marr's expeditions and remains largely unpublished. Systematizing these materials alongside modern surveys can provide deeper insights into Ani's cultural heritage and Marr's long-term research. This study highlights their importance amid ongoing restoration efforts and museum reopening, supported by the Russian Science Foundation.
