Summary

International water law principles, including equitable utilization and the no significant harm principle, can enhance the protection of the Zambezi River Basin by addressing its aesthetic cultural values. The study highlights the basin's global recognition for its natural beauty, exemplified by Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls and Mana Pools National Park. Despite well-developed transboundary cooperation through the Southern African Development Community Treaty, threats from proposed dam development and mining pollution persist. Integrating sustainable development principles and protected areas conventions into legal frameworks offers a pathway to mitigate these risks while preserving the basin's aesthetic and ecological integrity.
