Summary
A new interpretation of rock art in the Cueva de las Manos, Río Pinturas region suggests that the styles and techniques used by ancient Patagonian groups were not just aesthetic but served as a means for social interaction and information exchange. This study challenges traditional views on stylistic categorization by analyzing figure characteristics, artistic techniques, frequencies, and comparing them with established stylistic groups in the area. The research proposes that these visual representations reflect a collective memory and cultural continuity among Holocene inhabitants of central Patagonia, offering insights into their social behavior and cognitive processes.
