Summary
A new method for assessing the visual quality of public landscapes in historic centers, particularly applicable to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, has been developed and validated. This approach integrates physical-environmental, visual-aesthetic, and socio-psychological attributes, offering a comprehensive framework for evaluating landscape quality in urban heritage areas. The study, conducted in Arequipa's historic center, identified key components such as intrinsic visual quality, immediate surroundings, and scenic background, which together contribute to the perceived quality of public spaces. The method was validated through community engagement, including surveys and interviews with citizens, professionals, and specialists, ensuring its practical applicability for future heritage conservation efforts in Latin America.
