Summary
Literati gatherings during the Ming and Qing dynasties frequently chose Huqiu, Tiger Hill, as their preferred venue, reflecting its cultural significance and favorable conditions. These gatherings, including notable events like the Fushu Society’s Tiger Hill Grand Assembly and the Nanshe Society’s Literary Gathering, were pivotal in shaping the region's literary and intellectual landscape. The study attributes this preference to Huqiu’s strategic location within the Jiangnan region, which emerged as a cultural and economic hub during these dynasties. Its natural beauty, proximity to Suzhou—a center of learning—and the prosperity of the era collectively fostered an environment conducive to scholarly assemblies. This research highlights Huqiu’s role in nurturing intellectual exchange and cultural flourishing, underscoring its enduring legacy within UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
