Life form, diversity, and spatial distribution of macroalgae in Komodo National Park waters, East Nusa Tenggara

World Heritage Site: Komodo National Park

Publication Year: 2021

Publication Type: Conference paper

Publication Identifier: WHED62BED0519

Summary

A survey of macroalgae in Komodo National Park identified 42 species distributed across three phyla, with epilithic forms dominating. The highest diversity (22 species) was recorded on Mangaitan Island, while Halimeda and Amphiroa appeared consistently across all sites. Spatial variation in species richness correlated with environmental pressures, topography, and substrate profiles. These findings underscore the need for targeted management to sustain macroalgal ecosystems amid growing marine tourism.
