Summary

Sangiran Early Man Site, known for its rainfed agriculture, faces significant drought risks due to limited groundwater access. A study using the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) and Oldeman classification revealed that the region experiences monsoonal rainfall with distinct wet and dry seasons, putting crops at high risk when droughts last over four months. The research analyzed 30 years of CHIRPS rainfall data (1988–2017) to determine suitable crop patterns. Findings indicate Sangiran is classified as type C2, supporting two cycles of palawija (dry-season) crops and one paddy crop annually. This climate-based approach provides a strategy for sustainable agriculture in drought-prone areas.
